NEW is holding its 2007 Equity Leadership Awards Luncheon on June 7, 2007 at noon at the Grand Hyatt at Grand Central Station.
The NEW Annual Equity Leadership Awards Luncheon will be held on Thursday, June 7th at Noon at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, located at 109 East 42nd Street at Grand Central Station. We are pleased to have this opportunity to honor Gina Addeo as our Industry Honoree, Mike Forde as our Labor Honoree, and Tamara Rivera as our Tradeswoman Honoree. NEW will also be paying special tribute at the event to Judith Vladeck.
NEW Honorees:
Gina Addeo is Chairman of the Board at ADCO Electrical Corporation as well as President/Owner of GMA Electrical Corporation. Her career started as a teenager working with her father and mentor, Richard Addeo, at the company that he started in 1977, ADCO Electrical Corp. There she started to learn about electrical contracting and running a business. She attended and graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Engineering Degree before she became the first woman to attain a Master Electrician’s License. In 1993, Ms. Addeo started her own business, GMA Electrical Corporation, a successful midsize electrical contractor servicing commercial, institutional and public sector clients.
Michael J. Forde is the Executive Secretary Treasurer at the New York City District Council of Carpenters. After growing up in New York City, he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. In the early 1970’s, during the construction of the World Trade Center, he began his apprenticeship with the New York City District Council of Carpenters. With hard work, dedication to his craft, and a strong commitment to his fellow workers, he rose through the ranks to become foreman, general foreman, shop steward, and President and Business Manager of Local 608, before he was ultimately elected to his current position.
Tamara Rivera is a carpenter with the New York City District Council of Carpenters, Local 608. Prior to graduating from NEW in 1994, Tamara “Tammy” Rivera, worked on Wall Street as a receptionist. In a job where she primarily answered phones and filed, she found herself bored and unhappy. Tammy explains, “It was a job to me, not a career.” After graduating from NEW, Tammy was placed into the Carpenters Union. Now, as a journeyperson, Tammy is a shop steward. In addition, Tammy’s other pride and joy is being an instructor for NEW and for Construction Skills 2000.
Regarding her experience as a tradeswoman and instructor, Tammy says:
I look at my work as my playground and just have a good time. I now have a family of sisters! It has changed my life in the sense that as a receptionist, I had no direction in my life. Now, not only do I have direction, but also I’m giving back by passing the knowledge, the tools to other women. I always tell my students that when they graduate to always look back, and never forget their roots…Nontraditional Employment for Women.”
