Meet Nontraditional Employment for Women’s Board Co-Chairs: Catherine Moss and Christopher Shaw

We are proud to introduce our Board Co-Chairs, Catherine Moss and Chris Shaw, two dynamic and accomplished executives in the building and construction industry.

Catherine Moss is the majority owner and Chief Executive Officer of the L&L Companies. Her story is deeply intertwined with NEW's mission. Like so many of the women who come through NEW, she began her career at the bottom—driven by determination, a need to support herself, and a belief that hard work could open doors. She recognizes her own journey in every NEW graduate, and that connection fuels a lifelong commitment to the organization. For Catherine, supporting NEW isn’t just service—it’s personal, and it’s a promise to help ensure that every woman has the chance to stand confidently on her own two feet.

Christopher Shaw is Vice President, Healthcare Leader at LF Driscoll. His professional experience is deeply aligned with NEW’s mission to expand access and opportunity within historically exclusionary industries. NEW’s mission aligns closely with his belief that talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not. Chris is proud to support an organization that is actively breaking barriers and creating real pathways into the union trades for women across New York.

NEW and its Board of Directors look forward to breaking new ground under the leadership of Catherine and Chris. Learn more about their impressive backgrounds below.

Catherine Moss

Catherine Moss is a New York–based construction executive, majority owner, and Chief Executive Officer of the L&L Companies, a diversified, union-signatory construction platform comprised of L&L Painting Co., Inc., L&L Stone & Tile, LLC, L&L Specialty Flooring, and CMR Civil, LLC. Under her leadership, the L&L Companies operate across commercial interiors, landmark restorations, high-end finishes, and public infrastructure—delivering work for leading institutional owners, general contractors, and public agencies throughout the New York metropolitan region.

In 2025, Catherine assumed majority ownership of the L&L Companies, continuing the Levine family’s 75-year legacy through a unified leadership transition that reinforced L&L’s core values of craftsmanship, integrity, and people-first management. She now serves as CEO and principal owner, with direct responsibility for enterprise strategy, financial performance, governance, risk management, and operational execution across all four companies.

A hands-on operator with deep field experience, Catherine has implemented rigorous cross-divisional controls, modernized estimating and operational workflows, and introduced real-time financial visibility through enterprise systems such as Power BI—enabling scalable growth, disciplined margin management, and transparent decision-making across the organization.

Her leadership spans both private-sector landmark projects—where precision, finish quality, and coordination are paramount—and public infrastructure and civil work, where safety, environmental stewardship, and regulatory compliance are critical. Through CMR Civil, her teams support vital public works, including Department of Environmental Protection reservoir protection, MTA infrastructure upgrades, heavy excavation, sheeting and shoring, revegetation, and park restorations —work that directly safeguards New York City’s infrastructure and communities.

With more than 20 years in the construction industry, Catherine’s career path is uniquely comprehensive. She has held roles spanning cost and compliance, project management, site supervision, executive operations, and enterprise leadership at respected firms, including ADCO Electrical Corporation, Hunter Roberts Construction Group, Hobbs, Inc., and Cauldwell Wingate. This breadth allows her to lead comfortably from the jobsite to the boardroom, aligning field execution with financial rigor and long-term strategy.

Beyond her operating role, Catherine is a recognized industry leader and advocate. In addition to serving as Board Co-Chair of NEW, where she advocates for pathways for women into union construction careers, Catherine is a champion for workforce development and industry equity. She is also a Board Member of the Salvadori Center, supporting hands-on STEAM education initiatives that introduce underserved students to architecture, engineering, and the built environment.

Catherine is the founder of C-Suite State of Mind, a leadership platform dedicated to advancing women into executive roles within construction and the built environment through mentorship, strategic guidance, and network-building. She is also a member of AMPP, The Association for Materials Protection and Performance, reinforcing her focus on painting materials integrity, protective systems, and long-term asset performance.

A frequent panelist, speaker, and mentor, Catherine has appeared at NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate, Women in Construction forums, and national industry conferences. Her leadership has been recognized with honors, including City & State’s Above & Beyond Innovators Award and Autodesk’s 40 Under 40: Champions of Construction

At the core of Catherine’s work is a belief that people are the foundation of every successful company. She leads with clarity, accountability, and empathy—building organizations that are financially strong, operationally disciplined, and deeply human. Through the L&L Companies and her broader industry leadership, Catherine Moss is shaping a modern model of construction leadership rooted in legacy, innovation, and opportunity.
